When choosing your tattoo parlor, there are several things to consider. Just as there are numerous choices for any service, there are several choices, if not more, when it comes to tattoo parlors in your area. However, while you might come out alright just choosing the first rug cleaner you find, just choosing a tattoo parlor is different, and not advisable. 

 What is the difference? Well, a rug cleaner, at worst, will just not clean your rug. It will cost more since you will have to get it redone, then, story over. However, a tattoo is a pretty permanent piece of body art, and it isn’t so easy to just get rid of. Also, if you choose a bad tattoo parlor, you are more at risk for getting serious diseases and infections, as not all tattoo parlors are nice and clean.  After considering the pros and cons of tattoos, the choice of the tattoo palor is very important.

The first thing you need to do is to compile a list of different tattoo parlors in your area. Now, I know your friend might swear by the shop on main street, but just because he/she goes there does not mean it is the best place, and I encourage you to investigate several possibilities on your own before making a decision. So, compile a list, and then go check them all out before deciding on one. Yes, go visit, talk to the employees, ask them you are looking for a tattoo parlor, and ask them to tell you about their business and what type of tattoo safey they have in place. They will be more than happy to assist you.

Some questions you might want to ask are like where the artist trained, what kind of cleanliness standards the artist works by, and if you can look at their portfolio. Hygiene is extremely important when getting a tattoo, as not all artists are as clean as others. Proper hygiene can protect you from dangerous, potentially life-threatening diseases that are easily transferable via unclean needles and equipment, or even unwashed hands. And looking at the portfolio is a good idea too, since it will give you a hands-on look at how the work of the artist will come out. It can show you style, mannerisms, and other things that are good or bad about that particular artist. Looking at a portfolio can tell you a lot about whether or not you want that artist to do your tattoo for you. This will often be a good representation of skill, style, and overall artistic strength on his/her part.  This would also be a very good time to discuss the cost of tattoos that you are considering to have done.
